Description
Description
In 2013-2017, tea sales in Kazakhstan increased by 1.3%: from 28.98 to 29.36 thousand tons. In 2014-2015, the indicator showed a decrease (by 3.7 and 9.6% compared to the previous year, respectively ). This was due to the onset of a slowdown in the growth of Kazakhstan’s economy during these years, which affected the incomes of the population and forced consumers to reduce purchases. In 2016-2017, the sale of tea resumed its growth. Despite the fact that in 2016-2017, real incomes of the population declined, an increase in sales volumes became possible due to a decrease in the price level for tea: in 2013-2016, the retail price of tea in dollar terms decreased by 27.8% (from 10.08 to $ 7.27 per kg).
Over the five-year period, the structure of sales significantly changed based on the origin of the goods: if in 2013 the share of Kazakhstani tea-packing factories accounted for about 68% of all sales, then in 2017 its share fell to 50%. A further reduction in the market share of locally produced products is also expected: BusinesStat predicts that in 2022 it will be about 40%.
In 2018-2022, sales of tea in Kazakhstan will show an increase of 1.7-3.9% per year. This will be facilitated by the growth of real incomes of the population, celebrated since the beginning of 2018. In 2022, sales will reach 33.07 thousand tons, which will exceed the level of 2017 by 12.6%.
