According to BusinesStat, in the period from 2013 to 2017, the cumulative growth in global confectionery sales was 3.8%. In 2017, 90.8 million tons of confectionery products went on sale. The lowest rates of confectionery sales in the world grew in 2014-2015 (0.2% and 0.4%, respectively, from the previous period) against the background of a slowing global economy.
Sales of confectionery are fairly evenly distributed between countries. At the end of 2017, only China and India had the share of sales in the global indicator exceeding 10% (19.3% and 15.2%, respectively). These 2 countries of the country are leaders in terms of population and at the same time the world's largest confectionery manufacturers.
In the countries of the world, they mostly consume confectionery of their own production. The share of imported products in the global sales of confectionery products over the five-year period averaged 20.8%. At the same time, the production of confectionery products in the world in 2013-2017 increased to 92.7 million tons (by 4.3 million tons or by 4.9% over the period). The leaders in the production of confectionery were China, India and the United States. The share of the three largest manufacturers of confectionery products for the period on average accounted for 42.6% of the global production volume.
