From 2011 to 2015, the volume of production of linen fabrics in the world decreased by 1.8%: from 83.1 thousand tons to 81.6 thousand tons. The dynamics of production volumes for different countries in 2011-2015 was quite heterogeneous. In Asian countries - such as China, Hong Kong, India, Turkey - the production of linen fabrics showed strong growth. It has increased in a number of European countries - Belgium, Italy, and the UK. Production in Belarus remained at a fairly stable level, while the volume of Russian production of linen fabrics fell by 44.9% over the five-year period.
Leading positions in both the production and export of linen fabrics in the world market belong to China. In 2015, its share accounted for 44.9% of the global production of these products and 34.6% of world exports. It should be noted that in 2014-2015, China significantly reduced the supply of linen fabrics to the world market. The reason for this was the development of the Chinese clothing industry, in connection with which an increasing amount of Chinese fabrics are beginning to be consumed domestically.
