In 2012-2016, the export volume of trucks in the world grew by 7.2%: from 5.33 million units in 2012 to 5.72 million units in 2016. Mexico was the world's largest exporter of trucks in 2012-2016. which accounted for an average of 15.2% of world exports. In real terms, exports of products from the country in 2012-2016 increased by 21.8% (from 773.1 thousand units in 2012 to 941.6 thousand units in 2016), which significantly outpaced the growth rate of exports of trucks in general the world - 7.2% for the period.
Mexico’s leadership in the export of freight transport is due to the fact that for many years Mexico has been working with a large number of assembly plants of leading world brands. In particular, in Mexico is located the assembly production of the North American division of Daimler Trucks - Daimler Trucks North America. It should be noted that in 2012-2016, Mexico was the fourth largest manufacturer of trucks in the world, second only to the United States, China and Japan. Other largest exporters of trucks are Thailand and Japan, which in 2012-2016 accounted for an average of 11.4% and 10.3% of world exports, respectively.
The largest exporter of trucks in terms of value was also Mexico, with an average share in world exports in 2012-2016 of 20.3%. Exports of trucks from the country in 2012-2016 increased by 19.8% (from $ 23.9 billion in 2012 to $ 28.6 billion in 2016).
In 2017-2021, according to BusinesStat, the export of trucks in real terms in the world will grow by an average of 1.9% annually. In 2021, the global export volume of trucks will be 6.28 million units. At the same time, Mexico’s leading role in the export of trucks will continue: starting in 2020, Mexico will become the only country exporting more than 1 million units of trucks per year.
