Description
According to BusinesStat, in 2012-2016, global sales of mineral fertilizers increased by 9.4%: from 528.3 to 577.8 million tons. An annual growth was observed in comparison with previous years. The largest increase was recorded in 2014 - by 3.7%.
The world market of mineral fertilizers is developing steadily, without downturns and sharp rises, due to a number of factors: a reduction in the resource of free world sown areas; growing world population; the desire of developing countries to independently process raw materials and integrate the national economy into the global value chain; increasing requirements for product quality; an increase in the well-being of the population and, as a result, an increasing need for more protein-rich foods (meat, fruits, etc.); active search for renewable energy sources and bioenergy development plans. All this requires an increased return from farmland and creates all the prerequisites for the fact that the global market for mineral fertilizers will continue to expand.
In 2012-2016, China, the USA and India were the leaders in sales of mineral fertilizers in the world. During the period under review, China’s share in world sales averaged 29.0%, the share of the United States was about 12.4%, and the share of India was 11.6%.
In 2017-2021, sales of mineral fertilizers in the world will continue to grow by an average of 2.4% per year. In 2021 they will reach 649.7 million tons, which will exceed the value of 2016 by 12.4%. In the forecasting years, small changes will occur in the top three countries in terms of the consumption of mineral fertilizers. In 2021, China will retain first place, which will account for 28.7% of the total figure. The second place will be taken by India with a share of 10.8% of world sales, and the USA will go down to third place from 10.7%.
