In the period from 2012 to 2016, sales of mineral and carbonated waters in the world increased by 7%: from 94.8 billion liters to 101.4 billion liters. Sales of products on the world market annually showed a positive trend. The main reason for the steady increase in sales is the constant growth of the world's population. In 2012-2016, the growth rate of the Earth’s population averaged 1.2% per year. In 2013, the population of the planet exceeded 7 billion people. Growth primarily occurs at the expense of undeveloped and developing countries.
BusinesStat estimates that in 2017-2021, sales of mineral and carbonated waters will grow by an average of 1.6% annually. In 2021, the volume of sales will be 109.5 billion liters, which will exceed the level of 2016 by 8%. In the forecast period, the growth of the world population is expected to be 1.1% per year. Also in the world the per capita consumption of mineral and carbonated water will continue to grow. If by the end of 2016, this figure was 13.9 liters per capita, then already in 2021 the figure will be 14.2 liters per person.
The volume of world foreign trade in mineral and carbonated waters is much lower than the volume of domestic trade. At the same time, the volume of trade in products of own production remains at a constantly high level: its share in total trade is more than 90%.
