Description
During the period from 2007 to 2011, sales of hard coal in the world increased by 16%: from 4.6 to 5.3 billion tons. The largest increase in sales of these products in the period under review was observed in China and India: by 515 and 124 million tons, respectively. Over the past decade, coal has become a reliable energy source for these developing countries and has provided them with affordable electricity.
Traditionally, the largest sales of hard coal are in China, India and the United States. The total share of these countries in the volume of sales of hard coal in 2007-2011 ranged from 71% in 2007 to 73% in 2009.
According to forecasts of BusinesStat, in 2012-2016, sales of black coal in the world will continue to grow by an average of 3% per year. In 2016, sales will exceed 6 billion tonnes. The annual increase in global coal sales in the world is significantly affected by growing global energy consumption by 2.5% per year. According to experts, after 2015, the growth rate of sales of hard coal in the world will decrease to about 1.8% per year due to the slowdown in the economic development of the countries of the Asia-Pacific region and developing countries.
