Description
Description
From 2010 to 2014, sales of corn in the world increased by 19.5%: from 798 to 954 million tons. An annual growth was observed in comparison with previous years. The exception was 2012, when sales fell by 2.4% compared to 2011. The fall in the indicator was due to poor harvest of corn in some large producing countries, primarily in the United States, which led to a shortage of products on the market and, as a result, price increases .
In 2010-2014, the main consumers of corn among the countries of the world were the USA and China. In the years under review, the USA accounted for 28.4-34.5% of all corn sales in the world. The minimum share of sales occurred in 2012, and the maximum - in 2014. In 2010-2014, about 22.3% of all corn was sold annually in China.
The share of other countries in total sales was significantly lower than the leaders. So, the share of Brazil, which ranks third in 2010-2014 on this indicator, on average for the period accounted for about 5.5% of all corn sales in the world, and Mexico accounted for 3.3%, which corresponded to fourth place.
According to BusinesStat, in 2015-2019 corn sales in the world will grow by 1.0-2.4% per year. In 2019 they will reach 1,047 million tons, which will exceed the level of 2014 by 9.8%. In the coming years, the main drivers of increased consumption of maize in the world will be: firstly, population growth; secondly, an increase in the standard of living in some developing countries, which will entail an increase in the demand for livestock products and, as a result, for feed grains and mixed fodder; thirdly, the further growth of bioethanol production in the United States.
