Description
From 2010 to 2014, peat sales in the world increased by 3.6%, reaching almost 28.0 million tons in 2014. Despite the overall growth in the period, sales were mixed: in 2011 and 2014, there was a decrease of 0 , 7 and 2.5% compared with previous years, in 2012-2013 - on the contrary, an increase of 1.2 and 5.7% respectively. The maximum sales volume occurred in 2013 - 28.7 million tons, and the smallest - in 2011 - 26.8 million tons.
In 2010-2014, Finland was the world leader in natural peat sales, with an average share of 27.0% of total sales. The second place in the years under consideration was taken by Sweden - 11.0% of total sales in the countries of the world, and the third place was taken by Ireland with an average share of 10.3%. The vast majority of peat in the world is used for the production of heat and electricity. At the same time, there are quite substantial disproportions between these areas depending on the country. Thus, in Ireland, the entire volume of peat is directed to the production of electricity, and in Belarus, Finland, and Sweden, the main emphasis is placed on using this fuel to produce heat.
According to BusinesStat, in 2015-2019, peat sales will grow by 5.4-3.0% annually. At the end of 2019, 34.5 million tons of peat will be sold in the world. In the forecasting years, Finland will remain the leader in the consumption of this type of fuel. In 2019, the country's share in world sales will be 23.7%. The largest sales growth will be recorded in China - the value of the indicator in 2019 will exceed the level of 2014 by more than 25 times and amount to 1.94 million tons. The reason for this will be the increase in peat supplies to China from Russia. At present, an agreement has been reached on the extraction of peat on Sakhalin for 10 years between the Chinese investor Green Energy and the regional government. The oblast has already sent the first batch of 50 tons to China, it is planned to bring the supplies up to 2 million tons per year.
